An Image-Euclidean-Distance Classifier of Some Triatomine Vectors of Chagas Disease

چکیده

Chagas disease (CD) disease is a life-threatening tropical parasitic disease caused by the flagellate protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi. T. cruzi is typically transmitted to humans and other mammals by the bite of "kissing bugs" of the subfamily Triatominae (family Reduviidae), primarily by species belonging to the Triatoma, Rhodnius, and Panstrongylus genera. Rapidly identifying CD insect vectors in the field is crucial to effective control of the disease. Here I describe an image-Euclidean-distance classifier that suppors rapid identification of adults of nine CD vector species.

First Report of Aprostocetus asthenogmus (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) in South America and Parasitizing Eggs of Triatominae Vectors of Chagas Disease

We report for the first time the parasitism of eggs of two triatomine Chagas disease vectors, Triatoma infestans and T. vitticeps, by the microhymenopterous parasitoid Aprostocetus asthenogmus. We also describe the first identification of this parasitoid in South America. A. asthenogmus were captured near unparasitized triatomine colonies in the municipality of Vitória, state of Espírito Santo,...

Analysis of Children's Perception of Triatomine Vectors of Chagas Disease through Drawings: Opportunities for Targeted Health Education

BACKGROUND Chagas disease is a tropical parasitic disease affecting about 10 million people, mostly in the Americas, and transmitted mainly by triatomine bugs. Insect vector control with indoor residual insecticides and the promotion of housing improvement is the main control intervention. The success of such interventions relies on their acceptance and appropriation by communities, which depen...

Biogeography and Trypanosoma cruzi infection prevalence of Chagas disease vectors in Texas, USA.

Data were pooled from multiple sources including newly collected triatomine specimens, preserved specimens, government reports, and scientific articles to create a biogeographical profile of triatomine vector species found in Texas. Triatomine specimens were documented in 97 of 254 counties, and Trypanosoma cruzi-infected specimens were reported from 48 counties. Triatomine specimens were distr...

The Initial Success of The Chagas' Disease Control Program: Factors Contributing to Triatomine Infestation O Sucesso Inicial do Programa de Controle da Doença de Chagas: Fatores Associados com a Infestação por Triatomíneos

FLEMING-MORAN, M. The Initial Success of The Chagas' Disease Control Program: Factors Contributing to Triatomine Infestation. Cad. Saúde Públ., Rio de Janeiro, 8 (4): 391-403, oct/dec, 1992. While the control of the major Chagas' disease vector Triatoma infestans has been achieved in many endemic areas of Brazil, data from the inception of the control program in the Triângulo Mineiro (1976-79) ...

[Evaluation of knowledge and practices related to Chagas disease and its vectors among adults and children in an endemic region in Minas Gerais State, Brazil].

Despite the success of the Chagas Disease Control Program (PCCD) in Brazil, some endemic areas have experienced difficulty in maintaining the program's activities, especially after the health system's decentralization, since the sustainability of control measures for Chagas disease and vectors is known to depend on information and community participation. This study aimed to analyze knowledge a...
